When it’s election time in Canada, you’re bound to hear more than a couple of hockey metaphors. Lacrosse might be our national sport, but Hockey is the one closest to the hearts of Canadians… and if you want to speak to Canadians in a way they’ll understand, what’s better than a hockey analogy? Industry Minister David Emerson got into the act Monday, Canadian Press reported:
“It’s the last 10 minutes, you’re down 3-1, we’d better pull the goalie soon,” Emerson said, and he wasn’t talking about Ken Dryden.
You mean pull Prime Minister Paul Martin, reporters asked?
“No, it’s not Paul Martin, er, the goalie is, er, uh, rough up a few Conservatives,” Emerson says he meant to say, following a speech by Martin.
Anything else, David?
“I think I’ve said enough,” he added.
Fair enough, Dave.
You know, I think we may have a clue as to why the Liberals have had such a hard time getting there message out during this election.

Who the hell pulls their goalie in the last ten minutes of the game? Last minute, two minutes tops.
Another reason to hate these clods…they don’t know hockey.
