[...] I’ve been arguing for a while (and here) that with same-sex marriage legal, there’s no reason to rule out other forms of conjugal arrangements, including polygamy (the “hip,” nouveau kind, not necessarily the fringe Mormon kind which likely wouldn’t stand up to the Supreme Court’s tests on equality) and incestuous unions.
The Alberta Government has outsourced the managing and maintaining of Alberta Health and Wellness records, our personal private health records, to CGI, a private IT/insurance company heavily involved in the private health industry in the US and in private insurance in Canada, for $60 million. On Oct. 27, 2005 Alberta Health and Wellness renewed this contract, originally signed in Jan. 2001 for $25 million, to pay CGI $60 million over the next 4 years. Not only is this not in the best interest of public health care...but we have evidence that CGI is using it's government contract positions in Alberta to unethically defend insurance claims against their private health insurance clients. For example we have proof that CGI doctored an Alberta Health statement of the plaintiff in a major medical malpractice lawsuit, to attempt to avoid paying damages in this valid lawsuit. This relationship is an extremely serious conflict of interest issue that involves much more than I have mentioned here and is definately not in the best interest of Albertans.
