3/4 of Canadians Hate Alberta; or 3/4 Are Fools
October 24, 2005 · By Tom Cerber
The National Post reports 3/4 of Canadians think oil and gas should be used as a political weapon against the US over the softwood lumber issue.
No report on what proportion want to use the auto industry, hydro, Maritime fisheries, Hamilton steel, Saskatchewan wheat, BC pot, etc. as trade sanctions against the US.

Canwest Global owns the National Post, which in turn is owned by the Asper family, who happen to be major Lie-beral Party supporterses. Dah!
Unfortunately, guys like airy fairy Bruce remain of the opinion that Alberta is not under threat from Ottawa.
Fools is one way to describe these 3/4s, cowards is another. Not only are they prepared to mortage Alberta’s heritage and future (a cost only to Albertans), they feign difficult political decisions that must be born internationally for those considered true American allies. If Ottawa were to do an about face on Iraq, come out in full and loud support of the coalition, scraping up enough troops to put on the ground in some capacity, I’m pretty sure Canada/US trade relations would go a lot easier. Canada continues to be a disengenuous “friend” at a difficult time for American foreign affairs, and incredibly, these 3/4s can’t understand why the Americans are less willing to respect a trade agreement forged in friendship.
I think a threat to embargo electricity exported to the Northeastern US, including the Washington DC area would be much more powerful than an oil embargo. It would literally ghit the US government where they live, Therefore, lets turn off Churchill Falls until the US concedes on softwood lumber. I’m certain the easterners, especially those who are anxious to use the West’s exports to fight the US, would be happy with the opening of second front in a trade war with the US.
If that isn’t enough, maybe we could hold up cars and trucks from Canada at the border until the US capitulates. A very powerful third front as it would clearly arouse strong reactions in Detroit.
Maybe Ontario could hold back Toronto’s garbage reducing Michigan garbage dumps to penury if the US doesn’t concede.
No cost is too high to fight a long and vicious trade war with the US. Throw all our resources into the battle at once. Hit them hard and teach them a lesson.
This warfare can’t be limited. It must be a total, all out war. Strike hard on all fronts.
Don’t forget that we ALL want to be good Canadians and do our part!
