On the contrary, I believe western media have stepped up to the plate admirably. The problem is at this point, the western media consists mainly of the Western Standard, and a handful of independent weeklies dotted across the prairies.

Now, I seriously doubt our Liberal owned dailies and Liberal-funded national broadcaster are too keen to slit their own throats, so in the mean time, the western media outlets that are left are handicapped by geography and a lack of available resources. The WS is making great strides to dig in to the layers of scandal that envelope the Liberals, but aside from them, I don’t know of any independent western media that is capable of doing this kind of research.

I don’t think the Okotoks Western Wheel has the resources to have a full time Ottawa bureau.

If the media are to be blamed for this (which I am not convinced they should be), and if it is true that the Ottawa media keep Western media out of the loop (which I am not sure is possible), then Western media had better step up to the plate (which they clearly have not).

If Western media choose to just complain about not being part of the “Ottawa boys club” (Western alienation?) and continue to not do their jobs (i.e. dig around), then it truly is a sad time in Canadian history.
