China & Geostrategy
April 17, 2005 · By Tom Cerber
When it comes to international security, most of our (=media, bloggers, etc.) attention has been on the war on terrorism and Iraq. I’ve made a couple of postings on China and US financial security.
Defense Tech and Belmont Club (and here) have insightful updates on China’s military upgrades and how they’re transforming geostrategic considerations in that part of the world (including Taiwan), but also for US strategic interests (and ours, if you consider oil). Of course, Jane’s Weekly is the authority on all things military.
Summary: the Chinese military has advanced leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, to the point that they constitute a formidible threat to Taiwan and US defense of it. Despite this, it’s oil that China’s after (not in Taiwan, but in the Gulf and elsewhere, including Alberta).
UPDATE: No Left Turns has more.
