Dean, Democrats and Evangelicals

I recently posted on Howard Dean’s attempts to have the Democrats reach out to religious voters. Professor Bainbridge observes that much of this is words not backed up by actions. Even when they can vote to associate religious groups with their beloved welfare state, Dems reject them:
The largely partisan vote of 224 to 200 to extend and rewrite the 1998 Workforce Investment Act came a day after President Bush, in a speech to religious leaders, chided Congress for not acting on his religion-based initiatives and criticized a government culture he said was “unfriendly” to religious groups.
Actions indeed speak louder than words.
