Incoherence of Left Wing Bloggers

Michael Barone argues that left wing bloggers harmed the Democrats because they aggravated the already incoherent ideology. He writes:

So what hath the blogosphere wrought? The left blogosphere has moved the Democrats off to the left, and the right blogosphere has undermined the credibility of the Republicans’ adversaries in Old Media. Both changes help Bush and the Republicans.

Conservatives shouldn’t get too smug, though. Remember that Clinton could stay in power for 8 years because he shifted his party toward the right, and because the conservative media like the American Spectator spent more time focusing on his personal vices (of which there were many) than on coming up with real policy alternatives. The rise of the Weekly Standard is in part due to conservatives waking up to the need to offer something more substantive than Clinton-bashing. Sadly, the left is dominated by Bush-bashers who preposterously wish the US would lose in Iraq.
