Funny stuff

Kinsella certainly does seem to be flying off the handle as of late.
Case in point: He’s cheesed that someone apparently implied that his father was mentally-handicapped, which is mean, but hardly slanderous, as Warren claims. What the blogger didn’t know is that Warren’s father, a respected doctor, passed away fairly recently. Thus, Warren was perhaps justifiably pissed.
At this point, Warren could have responded in two ways. First, he could have acknowledged that the blogger obviously had no idea that Dr. Kinsella had died and perhaps passed this information on to that blogger in the hope that he would respectfully pull the offending comment. Second, he could have flown off the deep end and threatened litigation. He chose the latter.
Too bad; he is generally a quality blogger. I tend not to share the outrage that other conservatives direct Warren’s way, if only because he is not nearly as big a deal as he markets himself and as the aforementioned conservatives buy into. What did he do during the 2000 campaign other than hold a Barney the Dinosaur doll in front of him on Newsworld? Big deal. As Paul Wells has observed (compiled by BlogsCanada):
“Fun facts: Mr. Kinsella was not “the architect for the Grit victory.” He was not “the master” of the war room. In private moments, he has even been known to admit as much.”
“Mr. Kinsella? He was designated a “floater,” which means he had no specific job at all. He was there because of Jean Chretien’s personal affection for him. He chipped in, as everyone did, at idea-generating bull sessions. He went on TV because the other Liberals, terrified of Mr. Rae’s gag order, wouldn’t.”
“And what do you remember about his TV appearances? Precisely: the Barney the Dinosaur toy he hauled out of a gym bag to mock Mr. Day’s beliefs about creationism. Except the Barney analogy wasn’t his. It came from Sophie Galarneau, yet another near-anonymous Grit. Mr. Kinsella only acted it out.”
After all, how angry can you get about someone who dedicates a page of his website to his highschool rock band or posts a picture of himself with someone named “Joey Shithead”? I personally admire that sort of laid-back attitude. Conservative should ask themselves: If Warren does not take himself seriously, why then should we take him seriously?
