What! You mean appeasement doesn’t work?

Just weeks after Spain’s new prime minister, Socialist José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero publicly accused Tony Blair and George Bush of lying about the war in Iraq and reiterated his wish to bring troops home, we see more bombs found on a Rail Line in Spain.

Bomb Found on Rail Line in Spain

MADRID, Spain (AP) — Police found a bomb Friday under the tracks of Spain’s bullet train line between Madrid and Seville, the interior minister said, less than a month after a deadly commuter rail attack. Bomb-disposal experts alerted by a railway employee found the 26-pound bomb about 40 miles south of Madrid, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said.

And now, even with all this tough talk from Prime Minister Zapatero, we see that the terrorists are unrelenting in their requests.

Spain threatened with inferno

MADRID, Spain (AP) — A group claiming responsibility for the Madrid bombings sent a fax to a newspaper on the weekend warning it would turn Spain “into an inferno” unless the country halted its support for the United States and withdrew its troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, the daily said Monday.

Terrorists, the kind that take pleasure in killing innocent people, do not see any distinction between the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan. It’s too bad countries like Canada, Germany and France and leaders like Prime Minister Zapatero do – because when the battle ground of violence moves from the high mountains of Afghanistan and the streets of Baghdad to the cities and communities of these western nations, these countries and their leaders won’t have the liberty of splitting hairs on terrorism.

The choice to fight will be made for them.

Canada Named as Possible Terrorist Target

It isn’t suprising the Canada has been named as a target on an al Qaeda website. It also isn’t suprising that Canadians continue to ignore or downplay these warnings. Many Canadians, for whatever reason, seem to feel that by not joining the unpopular war on terrorism in Iraq, we’ve managed to avoid being the target of the terrorists bombs. I assume those are the same Canadians who feel the United States is the single biggest threat to world peace. If and when a terror attack occurs on Canadian soil, I doubt those killed and injured would share that same logic.

Experts warn it could be only a matter of time before Canada is hit. Several other countries named on the list — such as Spain and Australia — have already been attacked. Terror experts warn that Canadians have a false sense of security.

In Ottawa, Public Security Minister Anne McLellan downplayed any threat.

“We are a named country, that is very clear. That is not new. Osama bin Laden named us. We know that we are a named country and we act accordingly,” she told reporters in Ottawa.

But a new report suggests Canada wouldn’t react very well at all. A Senate committee found that if Canada is hit with a terrorist attack or major natural disaster, its frontline workers won’t be equipped to deal with it.
